Mc Hammer

I photographed Mc Hammer several months back for the movie Fast and The Furious: Tokyo Drift. These images were used as ads in the train station and a few other times in the movie.

The following is a quote from the graphic designer when she emailed me the finished ads.
“Hey Rob,
Here are the Hammer Ads I made for Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift.
The boxes are 5′x4′ Light boxes, and the larger horizontal are 20′ x
12′ approximately.
You did such a great job with him it made my job hard to pick which
image I wanted to use!”

George Lopez

March is National Kidney month and the Studio City Sun will run a story about comedian George Lopez and his wife Ann. Ann donated one of her kidneys to her husband George and saved his life. Get the complete story from the Sun.

I shot these images on the set of George Lopez The Show at the Warner Brothers lot in Burbank California. I sat in the audience for a bit and watched them tape for a bit then photographed George and his wife during a taping break. They were and absolute pleasure to shoot.

There is a funny little side story I’ll share. When I first entered the sound stage I noticed lots of signs telling you to turn off your cell phones. I had left mine in the car, so I had nothing to worry about. After 10 minutes of standing around waiting, out from the back of the set emerges Mr. Lopez himself on a mission.

He said to the three people standing there, myself included, “who has a cell phone? ” I can hear a cell phone” he said. He walked right up to the woman standing next to me like he knew it was her; keep in mind I had not heard a thing.

She pulls her Blackberry out of her purse, he takes it turns it off, looks at me and smiles, then gives me a smack on the back and disappears just as quickly as he appeared. I guess you had to be there but he sniffed out that cell phone like a bloodhound on a fox hunt. It just made me wonder why was he was the one policing the set for cell phones and how did he know where it was? I just had to laugh.

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, actor Ed Begley Jr and Councilwoman Wendy Greuel join Jim Kaplan and Judy Proffer publishers of the Studio City Sun and Sherman Oaks Sun for a ribbon cutting ceremony outside the new offices of the paper. After two years of publishing the Sun from their homes, the Sun Community Newspaper has a home of its own across the the CBS Radford Studios in Studio CIty.

Dutton’s Books Studio City

An image of Davis Dutton taken at his families bookstore, Dutton’s Books in Studio City which will be closing its doors after 45 years. Not the corporate coffee conglomerate of today’s Boarders, Barns, and Bucks. This bookstore is the Hallmark of a great bookstore. There is the smell of old books, you read hand written section signs and the dust on the books is free. Dutton’s story will run on the cover of Studio City Sun March 3rd. Studio CitySun The article written by freelance writer Amy Lions re-caps stories from the last 45 years and Mr. Duttons exciting planes for the future. Charles Wish

A humble Charles Wish standing next to one of his paintings at Copro Nason Galley at Bergamot Station in Santa Monica, Ca. February 4th. Wish sold his painting for $5,000 before the show even opened. It was bought the owners of the Key Club on the Sunset Strip.

You can see for yourself Wish is extremely talented and has be drawing and painting for as long as I can remember. I myself have a Charles Wish piece hanging in my studio behind my desk. A photography themed piece done in Prisma Color pencil, he spent over 800 hours creating an amazing piece of art that I feel extremely fortunate to own.

His studio is very close to mine so I drop in and watch him paint from time to time. This is an image I saw while photographing Charles at work. I stopped by with my camera’s after the Dutton Bookstore shoot and snapped a few pictures.

The image below is Wish at work on a new piece, as he works on the shading in the background. With a little Photoshop magic, I created my own piece of art. The image is signed by “Dreamer” that’s me of course, I like to paint under my alter ego name, Joe Dreamer.

John Tesh

As I listened to Mary Krasn an independent writer for the Sherman Oaks Sun interview John Tesh about his syndicated radio program, I realized he’s not the man I had stereotyped him to be. Funny how that works, when we pass judgment on someone we don’t even know and then find out that we have something in common them. We then see them in a different light. We all have commonalities that run through our intertwined lives, imagine if we were to take the initiative to find them, what a different place our world would be.

John, a Christian and host of The John Tesh Radio Show, is not about inflicting his beliefs on others as I had preconceived. No, he simply wants to help make people’s lives better and touch their hearts. I admire a person who has a strong belief in his faith, yet respects the beliefs of others. I believe a religion’s purpose is to set an example of how to live our lives side by side with unity and mutual respect. As a practicing Buddhist for the last 22 years I have also learned the that there is no greater joy in life than touching the heart or making a difference in the life of another human being. When it comes our time to move on from this lifetime the only thing we get to take with us, is what we gave of ourselves. Touching just one person’’s heart can have a great affect on millions of people. You never know what the person you touched, might contribute to the world.

One of my favorite things about being a photographer
is the joy of encountering all types of people and the opportunity to move their lives through my images.

Tai Babilonia

These two images were taken in the home of professional figure skater Tai Babilonia, will run on the cover of Studio City Sun today.Studio CitySun The article talks about her new show SKATING with CELEBRITIES Premiering Wednesday January 18th on Fox.

Tai is paired up in the show with “The Worlds Greatest Athlete.” 1976 Olympic world record holder in the decathlon Bruce Jenner. Tai says Bruce did great as a skater, I guess we will have to watch and find out for ourselves.

Mariette Hartley

Today I photographed Emmy Award winning actress Mariette Hartley for the Sherman Oaks Sun. This image which will run on the cover along with the article will run in the paper January 20th 2006. Mariette Hartley’s solo show is based on her best selling Memoir which open January 21st and runs through February 26th 2006 at The Whitefire Theatre in Sherman Oaks, CA. White Fire Theatre
